Company History

Kramer Associates, Inc. is a multi-disciplinary consulting firm concentrating in public history, community development, and public relations. It was founded as Kentuckiana Historical Services in 1981 by Dr. Carl E. Kramer and was reorganized in 1997 as Kramer Associates, Inc., with Mary Kagin Kramer as president and Dr. Kramer as vice president. Since its founding, KAI has completed hundreds of projects for more than 100 clients, with a high degree of repeat business. Clients include businesses; government agencies; historical and cultural resources management organizations; health and human services agencies; churches and religious organizations; community and economic development agencies; schools and educational organizations; legal, architectural, planning, and engineering firms; and private individuals.

KAI’s historical products and services include corporate and community histories; National Register of Historic Places nominations, Section 106 reports, and other historic preservation studies; oral history; museum exhibit scripts; heritage tourism publications; photography and photographic editing; and litigation support and expert witness testimony. Community development work includes comprehensive plans, zoning research, demographic and cartographic research, not-for-profit board training, grant research, volunteer development and training, and not-for-profit employee and customer satisfaction surveys.  KAI’s public relations products include news releases, newsletters, annual reports, audiovisual scripts, and administrative and legislative testimony; speech writing, copy writing, and editing; and news conference management. Our projects often involve a high degree of integration among the disciplines in which we specialize.

Kramer Associates, Inc. is especially strong in studies related to the Louisville metropolitan region and adjoining portions of Kentucky and southern Indiana.  But our projects have taken us into northern Kentucky, the Bluegrass region, Illinois, and Michigan, and we have served individual clients as far away as Texas and London, England.
